Mr. Alligator Loves to Chomp Numbers!

One of our favorite things to do with calendar each morning is to feed Mr. Alligator.  We always write our leaders names on the board and then compare the amount of letters in each name.  We  write a number sentence on the board and feed Mr. Alligator!  Sometimes, he is not so nice, especially when the numbers are equal! Today we each made our own Mr. Alligator and had a chance to feed him the greater number.

Give DRUGS the BOOT!

Texans at Carver Kindergarten gave DRUGS the BOOT today!

Thanks to all that participated!

 We sang the Country Countdown song since we were dressed like cowboys and cowgirls! 

We counted to 20 and then backwards from 20 as we rode our horse!

Tomorrow is "FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DO DRUGS" day!  You may dress like a "twin" or wear your Carver T-shirt and we will have lots of "twins"!

We Wear RED for RED RIBBON Week!

                 Today we began RED RIBBON week by wearing RED.

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Red Ribbon Week is a way for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives.

Don't forget to wear your cowboy/cowgirl attire tomorrow as we GIVE DRUGS the BOOT!

Zero the Hero Arrives for Day 40!

10,20,30,40!  It's hard to believe we have been in Kindergarten for forty days! Zero the Hero came today and gave us 4 zeros as we counted by 10s to 40!  On Day Forty we also learned about the letter Aa.  We learned that it is a special letter in the alphabet called a vowel.  We learned that a vowel is the "glue" that holds a word together.  Every word has to have a vowel or glue!  We also began blending our letter sounds to read words like mat, mam, tat and Tam.  We are getting smart and smarter!

Monster Toast!

This week has been a busy week for the teachers and students!  We have spent the week reviewing and testing all of the skills we have learned, so far, this year!  Each child was also given the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) this week.  Results will be shared at your child's end of nine week conference. I will also begin sending home a reader with your child after our conference!

To end our busy week, we played a fun math game and  "cooked" Monster Toast !

Then it was time for MONSTER TOAST!

 First, we painted a monster face on our toast using milk/food color "paint"!

Then Mrs. Daily put it in the toaster and we waited patiently!

Next, we buttered it!

AND then it was time to eat it!

RED RIBBON WEEK 2013

Carver Kindergarten will be participating in RED RIBBON WEEK, next week Oct. 21-25. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. We look forward to a fun, meaningful week as we encourage a drug-free world!

Monday- RED RALLY DAY!  Wear your favorite RED T shirt     to kick off the week!

Tuesday-TEXANS GIVE DRUGS THE BOOT!  Wear your         cowboy/cowgirl clothes.

Wednesday- FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DO DRUGS! Twin day, dress the

same as your friend.

Thursday-MY FUTURE IS TOO BRIGHT FOR DRUGS! Wear neon clothing.

Friday- WE RULE! WE ARE A DRUG FREE SCHOOL! Wear your favorite team or

                    sport shirt to school!

Trick or Treat with a Twist!

 Today we TRICK or TREATED for the letter Tt!  Of course, it's not Halloween yet, but we had a terrific time Trick or Treating with a twist!  First, the children had to create a costume for their TRICK or TREAT bag! Experiences children have during their early years of life can significantly enhance the development of their creativity. Creativity  fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, and new ways of thinking and problem-solving.  The children were so proud of their creations!  When their bag was ready, each trick or treated by reading their sight words to the teacher for a treat!
