Learning to Love Reading!

We are so excited about learning to READ!  This week we learned our first vowel, Aa.    We learned that every word has to have a vowel. Vowels are the "glue" that hold a word together.  We can't have a word without a vowel. Now we can read by blending!  Blending or sounding out words  is smoothly ‘hooking the sounds of a word together’ to hear the word. When we can hear that word and identify it,we are READING!  We had fun blending words with our Apples! Reading is  amazing!

We also read two new readers, I Am Ann and Tam in the Garden. These readers include our sight words and some blending words. We are so excited that we can read! We took turns reading to a friend.

Finally, we worked on building our reading stamina (or our "reading brain muscle"). Reading stamina is a child's ability to focus and read independently without being distracted or without distracting others.  Reading stamina is the energy needed to fuel our  reading habits. "If you don't improve your reading stamina, reading becomes frustrating and yields little pleasure and results.” We improved to 5 1/2 minutes today!  Hooray!!
Reading is so fun!
