EGG-citing EGG DROP EXPERIMENT

This week we learned about OVIPAROUS animals or creatures that are hatched from an egg. We were fascinated to learn that all birds, insects, snakes, turtles, frogs, fish and even dinosaurs belong to this group.Today was an EGG-stra EGG-citing day. It was the day of our EGG DROP experiment. We each had a chance to drop an egg (in a container of our choice) from the announcers stand at the baseball field. Each container was carefully designed to hopefully keep the egg inside from breaking. We had lots of creative containers!   By experimenting, kids get a chance to think creatively and practically to solve a problem. Children take away practical knowledge to solve a similar problem in the future or develop creative solutions to other problems by using the same logical process. What fun we had experimenting and learning!

 We sorted our containers by shape. We had lots of cylinders......
 many cubes.....
and two bag shapes.

The insides of the containers were the most creative!  We had teddy bear stuffing as well as peanut butter, oatmeal, bubble wrap, cotton, paper towels, Easter grass and even water balloons to protect our eggs!

After showing and telling about our container, it was time to drop our eggs!
We had to very carefully climb to the top of the stand.
10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.....
Let them drop!
 Did they survive?  

 Yes! 
Some survived!
 Oops! No.
But it was great fun!

We had a great time experimenting with our eggs today! Thanks to all who helped your child make a container for our experiment.  We had a fun time learning!
