Chickens aren't the only ones! Chickens aren't the only ones to lay eggs, that is! We found that out this week as we studied OVIPAROUS creatures! We were surprised to learn how many creatures lay eggs that develop and hatch. We now know that turtles, fish, all insects, all birds, alligators, snakes, lizards and even dinosaurs hatch from eggs!
To complete our study with lots of EGG-citement,we had an EGG-citing EGG DROP today! As a family project, the children were asked to create a container for an egg that they felt could survive a "great fall"! We had many survivors and some that were not so fortunate. But great EGG-citement was had by all!
We had containers made from BOXES,
BIG ones,
SMALL ones
PARACHUTED ones,

PRETTY DECORATED ones, BAGGED ones,
ones that were cylinder shaped,
CUBED shaped......
and even an IMPOSTER!
Then it was time to see which contained SURVIVORS!
It was great fun to climb the tall ladder as well as watch the eggs DROP!
We could not wait to find out what happened to our egg!
Great anticipation!
Ms. Nixon even came and helped us out!
We were sure this one would be a survivor.............but it wasn't!
How fun!
OOPS! Some survived but had not so good endings!
21 survivors from the group!
17 containers of non-survivors! If all eggs were survivors we would have no scrambled eggs!!
Survivors from Mrs. Daily's class
They ended up scrambled, but that's okay because we all had a great time experimenting!
Thanks to all who helped make this learning experiment such an EGG-citing one!
