We Learn about Native Americans!

We are learning about Native Americans this week as Thanksgiving is quickly approaching.  We learned that the Native Americans were called Indians because the settlers who first saw them thought that they were in India.  Thus, they gave them the name, "Indians!"  They are called Native Americans because they really were the first settlers in America! We have learned that Native Americans used hand signals to be able to communicate with other tribes of Native Americans.  We had fun creating Native Americans to decorate our room and hallway.
 One little, two little,
 three little Indians, four little,
five little, six little Indians,
seven little, eight little, nine little Indians
ten little Indian ...........
boys and girls!

We also learned that Native Americans, like all people, liked to tell tales about things that happened in their life.  They did not write words down in books, but they did use picture writing to tell stories.  We were fascinated to see that we could read  some of the symbols that they used!  We even had a chance to paint those symbols on our classroom tee pee.

 We can read Indian symbols!
We are  proud of our teepee.
We are having so much fun learning about the lives of the Native Americans!
