Rebecca READ-A-LOT teaches us how to read!

Our classroom puppet friend, Rebecca READ-A-LOT, is sharing her secrets for successful reading with us!  She has a special bag that contains her "reading tools" and we now know her secrets!

\
Rebecca's Reading Secrets:
First: Look at the pictures to see what the words might be.
Then: Get your "tracking finger" ready to point to the words as you read.
Next: Get your mouth ready to make sounds that go with the letters in the word.
Lastly: Stretch out the sounds to hear the word!

We can read!
Look for picture clues!
Way to use that "tracking finger"!
                                                         Reading is so fun!

Zero the Hero Comes Again!

Today is the 20th day of Kindergarten and we were excited to have Zero the Hero visit again!  This time, he gave us two zeros (froot loops) to eat!  We learned that two sets of ten make 20!
We have had a busy 20 days of learning.  We have learned color words, four sight words and have had fun with rhyming words and letters of the alphabet.  In math we have been working on sorting objects into groups and this week we will be comparing amounts using the vocabulary words more and fewer.

Today we became frogs and ate FLY PIE!  Fanny Frog was a fun rhyming song that we learned as we reinforced rhyming words. At first, we were not so sure that we wanted to eat FLY PIE!  But we soon discovered that it was DELICIOUS!!
Creating our FANNY FROG hats!

Milk and Fly Powder(instant pudding) were ingredients for our PIE!

Of course we added flies(raisins)! Yum!
Almost ready!

Rhyming Rocks with Fox in Socks!

We had fun with rhyming words today as we became fox in socks after reading the Dr. Seuss book, Fox in Socks! We were even able to have a Fox in Socks parade through our school with our fox headbands and crazy socks. Research shows that children who can understand about rhyming words have a head start in learning to read and, even more, to spell.  We think RHYMING ROCKS!

Lots of Learning Going On!

Hard at work searching for our sight words    I   and     am !   We used our "spy skills" along with detective glasses and "secret mission" music to help us!

This week we have focused on FRIENDS as we have learned about the "Golden Rule."  We have discovered that you should treat people how you want to be treated!  We have also worked on using BRAVE TALK when someone is not being friendly to us.  Our song, TWINKLE FRIENDS, is a fun song to sing with friends!

Lots of Cool Families Visited Open House at Carver!

The children were very excited to bring their families to Open House tonight at Carver!  The children were tour guides and took their family to their classroom and other favorite places at school.  The Book Fair and Family Photo spot were popular places to visit also.  Check out some of  our cool families!

                                       Thanks for popping in!

Zero the Hero!

Today was our tenth day of school!  Zero the Hero came to visit.  He came to teach us that the number 0 saves a space so other numbers cant get in his place!  He also gave us a zero treat to eat!  We cant wait until the day he comes again! (Hint: he will come on the 20th day of school!)

Second Week a Success!

Our second week of school was a success.  We learned to read the color words red, blue, yellow and green as well as the words I, am!  We also learned during our ME unit that we are all individuals- different and special! We continued to work on classroom rules and expectations.  The children are quick to share our classroom secret: "If you listen, you learn!"   Shhhhh!

Frog Water!

We had fun with the color GREEN today.   We  sang our GREEN color song  and read the story Little Blue and Little Yellow. We sang a silly song about a little green frog, then watched a short clip of a real frog catching a fly with his long sticky tongue! We then became scientists and experimented with mixing blue and yellow to make green.  We created Frog Water by mixing blue and yellow food coloring in our water bottles!  We were really excited about drinking Frog Water!
