Remember our May 2nd Field Trip!

This Friday, May 2nd, is our field trip to The Scottish Rite Theater (207 W. 18th st) in Austin followed by a picnic playtime at Mary Moore Searight Park (907 Slaughter Lane, Austin).  We will leave Carver Kindergarten at 8:30 AM and return about 2:30 PM.  If you plan to attend the field trip, please meet us at the theater.  The cost of the play is $9.00 payable at the theater when you arrive.  The play should last 45 minutes to one hour.

If you indicated on the permission slip that your child will be bringing a sack lunch from home, please put it in a large ziplock bag with your child’s name written on the bag.  Please also send a drink (with your child’s name on it) which has a screw-on lid.

Thank you for helping us have a fantastic

 field trip day!

Vv for Volcanos

We loved learning about volcanos for Vv. A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock (magma) below the surface of the earth. It is a hole in the Earth from which molten rock and gas erupt. The Earth's crust is made up of huge slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. These plates sometimes move and collide and cause pressure to build.  When the pressure inside becomes too great, the volcano erupts.  It is called lava when the hot rock is forced out of the volcano.

We loved reading the book "Volcanos" and watching the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcFtpWjZwlEThe Volcano Song . (You can click on the link to hear it! )

We began the day by singing and moving to "Count to 100". We practiced counting to 100 by 10s and then we made an erupting volcano by tearing and sequencing 10 to 100!

Then we went to the playground to create volcanoes.  We made a  mountain and Mrs. Daily added magma(baking soda) and then she poured a liquid (vinegar) to make lava erupt from our volcano. It was very exciting!
First we built our mountain.
Then we added magma.........
and vinegar to make our volcano erupt!
                                                                         WOW!
 Volcanos are exciting!

Kindergarten learning is exciting!

We Celebrate Earth Day!

Earth Day is an annual holiday, celebrated on April 22, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.  We celebrated Earth Day to help us remember to always protect and care for this great planet we call home!

We watched a video that taught us to REcycle(things like plastic bottles and newspapers), REuse(don't just throw things away-reuse them), and REduce(save water and energy by using less) to treat our Earth the right way.

We used recycled newspaper, gift tissue and "Earth feathers" to make hats for this special day!

Then we went to the park for an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt!

We searched and searched to find........
Something straight....
a stick.....
something rough.....
 something fuzzy....
 and more fuzzy......
something green.........
and something we thought was a treasure!

We loved spending time in the park for Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!
We love our EARTH!
