Learning about Space is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Out of this World art project
We have had a super time exploring Space this week!  We were fascinated to learn many interesting facts about the solar system.  We had fun creating the solar system and making rockets by using our addition skills. Our most favorite activity had to be our TRIP to the MOON!  We moon walked, ate space food and discovered moon rocks!  We were amazed to learn  about the astronauts life in space without gravity! Enjoy our SPACE ADVENTURES through our pictures!

Read! Read! Read!

Your child was recently given the Developmental Reading Assessment 2nd Edition (DRA2).  Letters were sent home recently to inform you of your child's level.   Please know that we practice reading strategies each day but children are encouraged to read each night with a parent. The leveled baggie readers that are sent home in homework folders are a great tool for this. Remember to use picture clues, "word attack" (sounding out words) and finger tracking to promote better reading. We appreciate the support and effort you are making at home to make your child a better reader!  We have some terrific readers in our room!

Octopus Stew!

Learning Letter Oo has been so much fun!  Yummy, Yum, Yum!  Friday finally arrived and we were able to eat OCTOPUS STEW!  We had eagerly awaited the arrival of that "octopus" even though many were sure that they DID NOT want to eat Octopus Stew! The boys and girls were pleasantly surprised to see the octopus stew was made up of "hot dogs" and olives! Almost all loved octopus stew!

We Can't Wait to Eat Octopus Stew!

We have had an OUTSTANDING time learning about letter Oo, Octopi and Octopus Stew this week!  Monday night we were given a "research" assignment to see if we could find out how the octopi/octopus protect themselves. We were excited to learn octopus are able to squirt ink to protect themselves and are also able to change their skin color and texture to blend in to their surroundings!  Camouflaged was the word we learned to describe this hiding trick of the octopi. We cant wait until Friday when Mrs. Daily says we are going to eat Octopus Stew! Yum! Yum!

Reading with "octopus magic!"
Ernie brought "research" info and activities to share with all!
Excited about the cool octopus information!
Thanks Ernie and Mr. Weiss for sharing!
Let's write all we now know about OCTOPUS!

Let It Snow!

We have had fun wishing for snow this first week back of the new year! Winter signs are all around! Today we had "snow" in our room! Each student was given a "blending" word on a piece of white paper.  After they read their word they were able to turn it into a SNOWBALL!  We then "let it snow" and did it over and over again!  We even had a snowball fight! We love learning to READ and SNOW!

100% Attendance ! Woohoo!

We are off to a great start this year with two days of 100% attendance in our classroom! We are glad everyone is well and able to be back in school. Our school is encouraging GREAT ATTENDANCE by having a contest. The class with the best overall attendance will recieve a treat! We learn best when we come to school regularly. Research shows that those children who attend school regularly are more likely to be successful during their school years.
