Brush, Brush, Brush Your Teeth!

Brush, Brush, Brush your teeth! Every Night and Day!  Brush'em, Brush'em everyday so they won't decay! This week we learned how important it is to take care of our teeth.  We learned that we need our teeth to smile, to eat AND to talk.
Protect those smiles!

Even Curious George knows to brush, brush, brush!

We conducted an experiment this week to show how important it is to take care of our teeth. We placed an egg in three separate containers.
One contained "sugar bugs"or vinegar, one had water and one had soda.

Each day we checked to see what was happening to "our teeth".  We saw how the sugar bugs made our tooth become very soft and eventually get a "cavity"!  The soda stained our tooth and we saw how the water did not change our tooth!  We now know it is very important to brush and floss  to get rid of plaque ("sugar bugs") and stains on our teeth.

We also played a "Dental" game to reinforce counting and matching numerals to sets.

Morning Music!

We love singing and dancing in the morning to "WAKE UP OUR BRAINS!" Each morning we move to the music as we review and learn new skills! Currently we are moving to the music to help us learn the months of the year, addition facts, patterns, counting to 100 and more! Research shows movement can be an effective  strategy to (1) strengthen learning, (2) improve memory and retrieval, and (3) enhance learner motivation and morale.
All you need is some arithmetic!
So hands up and shaky, shaky! Hands down and shaky shaky!
Get the rhythm! Get the beat!  Clap your Hands and Stomp your feet!
Let's get fit, have some fun! Count to 100 by ones! 1,2,3,4,5.............

Stretch your legs! 21, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27......
                            Stretch it out............33,34,35...............
Run in place 55,56,57,58......
Windmill...... 96,97,98,99,100!
One, two Spin a Roo!
How about a clap, hug, clap, hug pattern?
We love to learn with music!

Patterns, Patterns, Everywhere!

We have found that patterns are everywhere and can be made with just about anything! We have used manipulatives, art materials, people, rhythm movements, colors and words to create patterns! We have also become very good at labeling patterns.  Just ask us what an AABB, ABAB, AAB or BBA pattern is! Observing and creating patterns teaches kindergartners important skills they will later use in math.  Studying patterns teaches children how to make predictions and how to be better problem-solvers.Problem solving is key in being able to do all other aspects of mathematics!

How about an AAAABBB pattern?
Or an AAABBB?
An ABC pattern?
Creating patterns is so much fun!

Ll is for Ladybugs and Learning Letters!

This week we finished up our study of the letter Ll with a lot of ladybug fun!  We read The Grouchy Ladybug and discussed good and not so good feelings.  Then we solved addition problems on a ladybug and created a flying ladybug for our "Ladybug Launch!"  We love learning letters because now we can read and write even more words!!
Learning in Kindergarten is so much FUN!
